Hailed Augustus in AD 407 he was an ordinary soldier who would come to be known as Constantine III. A regular soldier in the garrison of Britain he came to power during the tumultuous times of the Western Roman Empire. In a bid for the Western throne he led the last of the British legions off the island, successfully campaigning in Gaul, stretching his victories all the way to Northern Hispania. After somewhat managing the Rhine from further major barbarian incursions he established his capital at Arelate.
