so when I was a kid I burned many hours on an RTS game that was about robots....

so when I was a kid I burned many hours on an RTS game that was about robots.
you could even have planes but you had to build runways and your source of income were these wierd buildings that were spread though out the map that could be captured and they produced gold for you (I think you could have upgraded them for more gold). also regarding the planes they had this fuel system indicated by a green bar and when the green fuel ran out your planes would automatically return.

anyways the biggest unique feature about this mecha game was that you could combine the legs of the robot with a different head and produce completely unique robots, there was a purple faction and I think there were some other colors but purple I remember.
this game is real old, like pre year 2000 old.

I need to know the name of this game!
this is a strategy game about robots that you can customize to your liking!

edit: it kind of looked like starcraft graphics

Post apocalyptic steampunk airship team deathmatch. Why are you not playing...

Post apocalyptic steampunk airship team deathmatch. Why are you not playing this right now?

Weapon customization, several ship classes available, and selectable crew classes make every ship a completely different experience.

The game is played in first person with 4 man crews on each ship in multiple game sizes, included the noob friendly 2v2. I've only been playing the game for two days now but the most interesting feature to me is the voice chat functions, which only allow the crew to talk to their fellow shipmates, and captains to their shipmates and other captains.

I recently met a friend of mine who had spent half a year in Kenia working for...

I recently met a friend of mine who had spent half a year in Kenia working for his company, I am not entirely sure what exactly he did there but it has something to do with the building of a telecomunication network and educating local workers on how to manage that network.
He kept on talking about Africas rising economy since his return and how democratic values were spreading fast, and that in ereas in which thoses values werent spread economic groath through private entrepreneurship is still growing and spreading wealth despite some of the repressive goverments.

I am pritty certain that he romanticised some parts and that the nations on the African continent still have a long road ahed to reach a big middle class.
Never the less, just like China and India have pulled themselves out of being a developing countries, one cannot deny that severl African nations are on the same path aswell.
Most notably South Africa which might even establish itself as a global power.

Of course, as an obvious result of that, the number of consumers for the free market will rise in those regions.
I am certain that alot of people here have already regulary encountered gamers from India, Brazil and other regions which were recently considered to be developing countries.
Games, just like every other product, are developed to fit into a certain market and to meet the customers demand. As such Japanese games are developed to fit the customer base in Japan and Games developed for sale in Europe and North America are developed to fit the demands of the customers there.

I believe that the recent rise in spending power throughout former (or even to some extent still) developing countries will create companies which develope videogames that fit into that distinctive market. I havent yet encountered a game from India, China, the African continent or South America, but I can give an example of one game developed in a country which has only recently opened it`s market: Metro 2033, what made the game partialy so great was that it is completly different from others due to it`s unique Russian charme. I am not sure if the game was developed to meet the expectations of the Russian or Western consumer base, but what I can say with certainty is that it`s different setting and cultural background certainly contributed to the games success.

So I expect that in the near future, we will see games apearing from game developers in India, China, South Korea, Indonesia, Brazil, Argentina, South Africa, Nambia Kenya and maybe even other countries, which will attempt to meet the demands of their local customers. As such I am interested in seeing what impact this will have on the industry.

Will Western developers try to meet customer demands in those emerging economies?
Will the emerging economie attempt to create products for the Western Market?
Will regional games have distinctive characteristics such as the Japanese market which is completly different from the European one.

One of the things I am looking forward to the most is the presentation of those games which are created to meet the demands of markets other than European.
A Indian Call of Duty offshoot in which one plays Indian soldiers during the wars with Pakistan, China and the liberation of Macau? A Total War offshoot set in Warring states China for the Chinese Market? An African Elders scrolls offshoot heavyly influenced by historic nations such as the Songhai Empire or the various Sultanates of North Africa?

I have often heared various people complain that most games are to eurocentrist and hardly have any references from other cultures in them, the main reason for this I believe is simply the free market and how a game set in ancient China, or medieval Africa would be a risk to take for a developer considering the demands of a market.
Jet I guess that this might be about to change considering that a new class of consumers is entering the free market.

Today i bit the bullet and picked up a slim PS3 160GB model for 120 quid very good deal in my eyes, only a few slight marks nothing that will ever bother me.

He chucked in MGS4 & Uncharted free but im on the hunt for the exclusives i was born a pc gamer and have remained a pc gamer but i just cant take not having major titles for months upon months rather bite the bloody bullet and join the console crowd.

Can anyone advise any good games for the PS3, upcoming or old does not matter to me :).

Thank you.
