Well.... I am always interested(alright, just from a month ago, but still) writing AARs, but I never got the time to do so, and the few screenshots I do manage to get suck. BUT after a lot of procrastination, I finally managed to write this AAR. Hope y'all will enjoy it.

GAINING A PROPER CASTLE
A SHIMAZU CLAN AAR
ROAD TO KYOTO
PROLOUGE

1545: The Sengoku Jidai. The age of the country at war. Or, as we, the Shimazu, call it, "the disastrous year where we lost our prized castle"

You see, we had a rather big castle, as big as those from the Ashikaga. The citadel was one of the most prized possessions of our clan, serving as an protective measure against the Ito morons who are too chicken to assault our magnificent castle.

In the 1st of December, 1544, our damiyo decided to make an huge stack of fire arrows "just to prepare for our offensive next year", eventually being so large that the entire citadel looked like an pine tree suited for the Nanban holiday of Christmas. While this is just a mere annoyment, fear spreads over that the entire castle can be burned down. We shot those theories down, claiming that their is no way that the fire arrows can be set alight, and even in the very unlikely event that it is on fire, the citadel is made of stone, so it cannot get on fire.

And indeed, the fire arrows never caught fire. But eventually, as our comforting to the common people turned into a overexaggerated boast that our castle is invincible, fate decided that this kind of tempting him/her is punishable.

In 1545 Januari, thanks to some guard who decided to smoke, the fire arrows set fire, and as consequence, the castle was lit ablaze.

It was horrible. I cannot say anything else about the fire.

The only silver lining was that the damiyo's family was gone somewhere else, and that I was gone.

However, there is hope. Scouts tell me that in Osumi lies an great citadel, worthy of our possesion. It is highly unlikely that the Ito can build such structures, but we will check nonetheless.

Tonight, we will march to Osumi!

Nin-po; The Sword Above The Heart - Introduction

Shinobi, Iga-no-mono and, of course, ninja. If they hadn't existed in reality then you would have to have invented them! Yet the one pressing question is thus...why? What is it about the stealthy and shadowy killers, the elusive raiders and saboteurs that some consider could give this eras special forces a run for their money, that makes them such a popular and thoroughly sifted character in not only the eighties but to this very day?

To most (and I am generalising here, so apologies) the ninja – a word itself invented relatively recently in terms of years – are those black-clad assassins found within the pages of fictional literature, on the stages of kabuki theatre, or, Gods help us, on the television with their very own manga series. They are those superhuman killers that are unable to be captured by any means, able to walk on water much like certain carpenters sons with a book written about them, capable of sneaking into a heavily guarded castle and then drifting away like smoke and without so much as a trace.

The real question then may not be 'why?', clearly the imagination is a reasonable enough answer as to why these things would become popular in the minds of humanity, especially among the West, perhaps the question is who were they really? In truth do people engage with the ninja and their entire mythos because of what we don't know about them or because of what we actually do?

What is 'known' (and I say that loosely) is that what many now know as 'ninjutsu' was bought to life within the bubbling and stony cauldrons of Iga and Omi prefectures with southern Omi being the birthplace of the Kouga or Koga-Ryu which, contrary to popular belief, were not the mortal enemies of the Iga clans. Anywho, within these confines of rugged terrain were developed the skills and disciplines which would later earn both areas extreme infamy and even lead Oda Nobunaga to attempt to annihilate the Iga clans once and for all, skills transferred through extended families and used in all manner of ways for both the body and for the mind to create the warrior-spies that play so happily on the Western mind.

Although not a scholar (unless you count ancient history I.E. Romans an' that) I have, like many people, always had a fascination with the enigmatic sons of the shadow and when I saw that the Hattori clan were playable, along with their craggy homeland, I decided that I could not help myself and would have to take on the challenge of fighting off the shogunate and anyone else who wished to harm mother Iga and her children.

So, here it be.

I will be focusing on the tale with a first-person view, showing the life of a studious shinobi as I perceive that it might have played out. It will be my own tale, and therefore all historical mistakes will be firmly on my head throughout.

Please feel free to leave comments and ask questions as it goes along. :)

Disclaimer:

If you like lots of in-game pictures...probably best to avoid this one.
