I'm not sure if this is a bug or not so I wanted to run it by you guys. I'm playing the Egypt campaign with Darthmod installed. I noticed that the Ottoman Deli lancers and Bedouin warriors have European graphics and unit cards - you know, like wearing tricorns and jackets, not the more Middle Eastern looking graphics. Is that normal? Something to do with Darthmod?

I started a Prussia campaign on VH/VH and I actually enjoyed the challenge,...

I started a Prussia campaign on VH/VH and I actually enjoyed the challenge, France/Switzerland/Spain threw a never ending stream of armies at me while I was 'unifying' the German states, Austria/Russia/GB were also valuable allies, saving my battle quite a few times.

However.....I had made Italy my protectorate and most of the Italian peninsula was under its control, Austria suddenly declared war on Italy, no way I was going to lose all that land (since Protec. land counts for you as well) so I declared war on Austria. After taking Prague and Venice I managed to get Austria to settle for peace with a large sum of money, hoping that they would forget about that short incident and become my ally again. It worked for an entire year, until Austria declared war on me AGAIN and this time they dragged Russia/Britain into it, I had to throw away huge amounts of money to get them to settle for peace, i even had to liberate Hungary and capture Croatia to get Austria to accept peace. Then the very next turn after I had achieved peace the Austria/Russia/Britain coalition all declared war on me, I bought them off again. Next turn...another war, they seem to forget that FRANCE is supposed to be their enemy.

This diplomacy is game breaking....can't I create my puppet states in peace without my allies declaring war on them despite their protectorate status. And the AI is far too aggressive diplomatically as well as militarily, I'm fine with an enemy having unlimited barrels of reserves but I can't stand it when my allies backstab me turn after turn for no rational reason whatsoever.

So my clan mates have this tournament on Napoleon total war today, even though i work all day I still bought the copy. Why? Well for one its the only one I dont have and 2, Well all my other games are modded and wont let me play multilayer with my clan. (by the way, if anyone knows how to turn off shogun 2 darthmod so i can play with a clan invite please let me know.) So anyway its still downloading and im about to go to work. So i was wondering how the campaign is in Napoleon? Does it require a mod to function? Do i have to play the story of napoleon? What new features are there as opposed to empire? And are the graphics better than empire? Also what is the purpose of the Grand Campaign if there is one. Do i have to play as Napoleon?

I feel like this is a very redundant question, but does anyone have any help or advice on the vh/h Prussian campaign of the coalition?

Im currently on my third try. The first time I didn't expand much, disbanded my military, and built up my infrastructure significantly, as well as intellectually enlightened, and "sided" with the French. After about 15 turns the coalition declared war on me and it was downhill from there.

the second time I immediately allied with the coalition and pushed the French as far back as Flanders and Alsace-Lorraine; however, my substantial military left me broke and highly undeveloped industrially. And after 15 turns, despite being in the positive with every other country in the 100s, Great Britain declared war and the others soon followed suit. I knew it was over then because I was bankrupt, and my armies were all the way in France and even then couldn't match the French pumping out stack after stack.

Now, on my third attempt, I kept good relations with every nation, and kept my armies divided evenly on both fronts and have turned every acquisition into protectorates as buffer states. I digress that every minor nation for some reason, having one or two regions at most have been highly developed and have pumped out stacks that match my own armies in both quantity and quality as time goes on despite me having seemingly more vast land and resources to draw from. I simply can't compete with their unmeasured strength and wealth along with that of all the other major powers. They are also very aggressive. This applies to all campaigns. In the first, the Batavian Republic somehow beat me back all the way to Berlin. And in the second, the Swiss confederation single handedly held back the Austrians with three full stacks. I digress further that the major powers, only when on my side, have proven ultimately useless in support and just sit there leaving me to take on the enemy alone.

Anyways, now on my third attempt, having made no allies, everyone has grown in animosity against me and have all declared war on me. I just can't win. I'm now pushing into the poorly defended Russian-Austrian front and holding off the French and British with only a few weak protectorates in the West.

Any ideas? Excuse this poorly written thread, I'm doing this off of my iPhone on a long, bumpy bus ride.

Haiti, a lost opportunity?

I guess everyone has spent some time reading through articles, watching...

I guess everyone has spent some time reading through articles, watching documentaries and feature films on Napoleon and his exploits.
And I bet everyone has his or her favorite historic moment during the Napoleonic wars.
The game manages perfectly to present almoust every single campain and phase during the napoleonic wars.
The big "European continent" campain, Italy, Egypt and the Iberian Penisular. Adding to that, the historical battles also give a flair to the game which no other gaming title set during that erea is capable to give.

But I write "almoust", because my favorite part of the Napoleonic wars (and post french revolution wars) is not presented. The Haitian revolution under the leadership of Toussaint Louverture and the expedition of Charles Leclerc to Haiti, in order to regain it as a French colony and to help Napoleon rebuild a French colonial empire in America.

The Hatian revolution is an event in history of which hardly anyone knows anything about. Of which I believe the main reason is simply racism. Haiti had to repay reperations to France up until the 20th century and many countries in the american continents werent exactly comfortable with a nation founded by slaves who had revolted against their masters.
Especialy considering that slavery was pritty much the motor of the 18th and 19th century economy on the american continents. Haiti was neglected well up to the 20th century.

I am not going to post some long text explaining the history of events that took place there, I am simply going to post a 12 minute vid (which actually is for a younger audience) which gives a short but informative summery of events:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5A_o-nU5s2U

So as you can see, this entire event in American history would have given a perfect background for an additional dlc.

With four factions being Great Britain, France, Haiti and Spain. One could chose to eighter fight for Independence, or take the colony for ones empire.
It would have also given the opportunity to interduce a new gameplay feature which has gone missing after Medieval II: Disease, in the form of Yellow fever, especially when considering that thousands of French troops were killed through it. New units would have also been possible which would have been unique. Freed Slaves armed with machetes or muskets and other very simple guerillia units for Haiti and "Maneating dogs" (which the french used to fight this war) aswell as the famous Polish Legion for France (Yes the Polish Legion was also in Haiti):

Adding to that, the Brits and the Spanish would have also tried to gain that valuable Island. It would have been a completly different campain from all others in the game, in which Napoleon (and all other European factions) was clearly the bad guy. Napoleon didnt personaly comand troops during the French campain in Haiti, but he is also not playable in the Iberian Peninsular campain. But Toussain Louverture and Charles Leclerc aswell as others (Jean Jacques Dessalines and Jean Baptist Brunet) would have been great additions to the games set of generals.

A map of the caribbean would have also been great:

Maybe streching from Guadeloupe to the Cayman Islands and from the Bahams to barely including the Antilles, such a map would have given some awsome opportunities for modders, such as creating a "pirat campain" or "Spanish American war" campain.

But as most of you have probably noticed I am dreaming here and sodding arround over something that doesnt exist.

I simply wanted to express, that I think, CA lost a great opportunity here by focusing mainly on Europe and ignoring that the Napoleonic wars and wars of the French revolution were also fought in the Americas.

Thanks for reading.
