This tool is a successor to the old XIDX tool by Vercingetorix.

Original available at EBII's ftp server: ftp://europabarbarorum.org/XIDX-bin-dist.7z

This is the binary distribution consisting of a 7zip archive of (currently) approximately 141KB. It includes the following binaries: Linux ELF binary for AMD64 systems (bin/xidx), Windows PE binary for 32bit systems (bin/xidx_x86.exe) and a Windows PE binary for 64bit systems (bin/xidx_amd64.exe). Additionally it contains a readme and program licence. Programs such as 7-zip can be used to extract these contents. (You can get 7-zip from here: http://www.7-zip.org/ or commandline equivalent p7zip from here: http://p7zip.sourceforge.net/ )

For the source code, please refer to the source distribution instead.

Main changes
  • Tool now runs on other environments besides Windows.
  • General reliability improvements and bug fixing (segfaults).
Fix for relative pathnames specified on the commandline (or elsewhere).
Fix for memory allocation which brings memory requirements down significantly, especially for lots of small files.
  • Able to write M2TW versions of RTW pack file formats.
  • Support unpacking event packs (data/sounds/events.idx & data/sounds/events.dat).
  • Support for transparently adding/stripping file name extensions (useful for avoiding problems when unpacking skeletons which usually have the same name as the directory containing animations for it).

The tool remains available under the GPL v2, or at your option a later version:
